What distinguishes Regal Princess and sister ship Royal Princess are the variety of quality experiences, from exquisite dining to enjoyable entertainment, from acres of pool space (and plenty of lounge chairs) to facilities for active cruisers (the Lotus Spa Fitness Center, Sports Central and Center Court). Staff is friendly and staterooms won't make you feel squeezed in. Princess Cruises certainly delivered with its new vessels.
Dining aboard Regal Princess
In addition to traditional dining there are many options for specialty dining. Regal Princess features a new concept for Princess Cruises: the Chef's Table Lumiere. Situated in Allegro (one of three main dining rooms), Chef's Table Lumiere casts new light, literally, on the company's popular chef's table experience at sea. Guests sit at a custom-made glass table in an area surrounded by strands of lights that form a curtain. The effect is a soft wall of privacy in the middle of one of the main dining rooms. The dining experience, which includes the chef's specially prepared meal, at time of writing goes for $115 per person.
The other main dining rooms, Symphony and Concerto, feature the Wine Maker's Dinner, which goes for $40 per person, in a venue inspired by wine cellars. The circular areas, surrounded by wine bottles, seat up to 12 people each. Developed in conjunction with noted winemakers, the speciality menus are paired with wines and include classic carved meats such as crown of veal rack, lamb Baron and veal rack a l'Orlov.
You will likely want to make reservations for dining at the Crown Grill, a premium seafood and chop house featuring chops, seafood and premium Sterling Silver steaks. The cover charge is $25, except for the complimentary pub lunch, which is offered each day in the adjacent Wheelhouse Bar on deck seven aft.
Sabatini's features sophisticated Italian favorites with an a la carte experience. Princess' signature Tuscan inspired speciality restaurant is situated on deck five, adjacent to Vines wine bar, where you may want to have a pre-dinner prosecco or a cocktail. New for Sabatini's on Regal Princess: a wine display featuring what is arguably the sea's widest selection of Super Tuscans. Cover charge is $25, and Super Tuscan wine events are offered for $40 per person.
Alfredo's, on deck seven in the atrium, serves up fresh, hand-tossed Neapolitan style pizzas at no charge. There's also a selection of complimentary Italian antipasti, soup and salads, a hearty calzone, desserts and more.
Ocean Terrace is nearby on deck seven, with a la carte items (and pricing) for seafood dishes such as oyster shooters, sushi and sashimi, chili and lime crab margaritas and much more.
The 24 hour International Cafe serves up sweets such as cupcakes, pies and an array of pastries, plus salads and sandwiches, at no charge. For a fee, the International Cafe also serves speciality coffees, and new on Regal Princess: a Tea Tower with 250 blends of tea.
Regal Princess features poolside options, including the Trident Grill, Outrigger Bar (yummy guacamole and chips); Prego Pizzeria, Swirls (for ice cream), and the Cabana Picnic, offering a variety of picnic basket options with artisan sandwiches and desserts, available with champagne packages.
Regal Princess’ Horizon Court Buffet is the largest of any Princess ship and features new action stations, with Asian cuisine, Mediterranean dishes, fresh pasta and salad-tossing stations. There's also the Horizon Bistro, offered at dinner with specialty themes such as Brazilian churrascaria, Argentine gaucho, German Beer Fest, European Bistro, British pub and more.
Horizon Court is also home to Crab Shack, with a cover charge of $20 to enjoy crawfish in a Bayou-style "Mud Bug" boil, spiced peel and eat shrimp - and mixed steamer pots filled with snow crab, jumbo shrimp, clams and mussels. There's also Fondues, which offers a variety of cheese fondues for a cover charge of $20.
