Freestyle Cruising is about flexibility and freedom. On a Freestyle cruise you choose what to do on your vacation.
Freestyle Dining: choose between up to 20 different dining venues per ship. No need to rush, no need to watch the clock. In addition to two main dining rooms, Norwegian Cruise Line's ships offer an array of a la carte gourmet and ethnic restaurants and casual eateries. From elegant French bistros and Italian trattorias to sushi and tapas bars, and more, there's a different dining option for every night of your cruise. Dine at a cozy table for two or reserve a table for up to ten friends and family members.
Freestyle Attire: On your Freestyle cruise the attire is "resort casual"; think collared shirts and pants or designer jeans in the evening for the men, and the equivalent for the ladies. No need to pack gowns, suits, or ties. Should you prefer to dress up a little more, feel free to do so. With Freestyle Cruising the choice is yours.
Dining in the two Main Dining Rooms, in the indoor and outdoor buffets, the around the clock dining venue (where available), and the poolside eateries is included. For the more exclusive specialty restaurants, such as the French Bistro or the Japanese Teppanyaki, there is a cover charge.
people who love norwegian cruising
Freedom lovers: Norwegian Cruise Line’s signature Freestyle Cruising allows guests to choose what they want to do from moment to moment, with no fixed dining times, no formal dress codes, relaxed disembarkation, up to 20 different restaurants and even more lounges, bars, theatres and other entertainment and activity options.
Kids who want to have fun: Ditch the parents and join one of four age groups, each with its own special activities, meals and trained staff who specialize in fun and games.
Hawaii lovers and newbies: If you’ve never visited the 50th state, Norwegian Cruise Line has the best itineraries for visiting the islands without wasting long days at sea.
The 4,000 passenger Norwegian Breakaway is a big, classy ship that will cruise year-round directly from Manhattan. Along with the other 4000+ Norwegian ships, the Norwegian Epic and the Norwegian Getaway (arriving February 2014), the Breakaway is unlike all previous Norwegian ships. These new mega-ships are designed for bustling non-stop activity and lots of freestyle fun. And while you at night will be hard-pressed to find a "quiet lounge", these ships somehow at the same time manage to be very family-friendly.
The Waterfront is a new, revolutionary idea by Norwegian. Never before seen on any cruise ship, guests can now down on deck 8 not only stroll along a "promenade deck", but also enjoy outdoor dining and lounging. Indoor restaurants and lounges have been extended to the outside deck. You can find Waterfront dining for Cagney's Steakhouse, Moderno Churrascaria, Ocean Blue, La Cucina, and outdoor bars for Shaker's, Maltings and Fat Cats Club.

Nightlife On Norwegian Breakaway
The Norwegian Breakaway, along with Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class ships and the Norwegian Epic, offers the best entertainment at sea.
The full 90 minute Broadway show "Rock of Ages" is unlike any cruise ship show you have ever seen before. Other crowd-pleasers include sketch, improv, and participatory murder mystery shows by the legendary comedy troupe Second City; the dueling-pianos show Howl at the Moon; great musical performances at the Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club; the Burn The Floor dance shows; and Cirque Dreams and Dinner Jungle Fantasy in the Spiegel Tent.
At night there is also a huge assortment of bars, lounges, and activities. On the cooler side, the Ice Bar is kept at 17 degrees Fahrenheit (-8ºC) so the ice furniture won't melt. Patrons get a parka as they enter. Down the corridor, are the more conventional Maltings Whiskey Bar, Shaker's Martini Bar, and Humidor Cigar Lounge, while one deck below is O'Sheehan's Bar and the ship's expansive Casino. There's even an outdoor nightclub, with a dance floor, bar, and a giant TV screen projecting mood-enhancing visuals.
Pools & Daytime Fun On Norwegian Breakaway
Norwegian went all out in designing the AquaPark and Sports Complex aboard Norwegian Breakaway. Spanning decks 15, 16, 17, and 18, this stunning area includes five multi-story waterslides, one of which is the fastest drop slide at sea - and one of the area's hottest attractions. For those who like their water activities on the milder side, there are two traditional swimming pools, along with a special Spongebob Squarepants-themed pool area for the kids.
The Sports Complex is home to a rock-climbing wall, bungee trampoline, Spider Web climbing cage, and one of the more attractive minigolf courses we have seen aboard a ship. There is also a gigantic ropes course and a zip track that includes a scary element known as The Plank, an 8 foot long (2.5 meters) bar that extends beyond the side of the ship and high above the sea. Guests can walk The Plank, with harnesses for safety.
Cabins On Norwegian Breakaway
Norwegian Breakaway's cabins have a classy, modern design. The majority are balcony cabins, and it should be noted that the size of the balcony varies by category. One step up are the mini-suites, a larger version of the balcony cabin. Perhaps the most noticable difference is the size of the mini-suite bathroom, which has a full bathtub. A number of Breakaway cabins are "spa" cabins, with easy access to the Spa and Fitness Center.
Studio cabins are designed for solo travelers and located in their own part of the ship, with an exclusive lounge that has its own bar and sitting area. The solo cabins are designed like out of this world space capsules, with ingenious storage spaces, a one-way porthole window that looks out into the hallway, and adjustable mood lighting. They're only about 100 square feet, but so well designed that the fun factor outweighs the claustrophobia.
Norwegian Breakaway, like other Norwegian ships, has it's own "first class" section called The Haven. Here you will find a ship within a ship, with luxury suites, villas and penthouses, a private luxury restaurant, a private cocktail bar, and even a private courtyard with pool and sun deck area. The Haven comes with expert butler and concierge service.
