Costa Luminosa - Cruise Ship Review - Passenger Reviews

Costa LuminosaWhile most other cruise lines are building giant, post-Panamax ships exclusively, Costa Cruises is one of the few to also build some relatively smaller ships as well. In 2009 and 2010, Costa introduced two of these vessels: The 2,260-passenger, 92,700-gross ton sisters the Costa Luminosa and the Costa Deliziosa. By building ships big and small, Costa has the benefit of flexibility as it expands the scope of its itineraries and becomes increasingly global.

Interior appointments are outfitted in an avant-garde style. The décor, created under the direction of former Carnival chief designer Joseph Farcus, makes liberal use of premium materials to create an elegant and sumptuous atmosphere.

Passengers are surrounded by marble, wood, mother-of-pearl, and Murano glass in the ship’s myriad public rooms and spaces. Works of fine art abound, with thousands of reproduction pieces and hundreds of originals, such as the sculpture that serves as the focal point for the ship’s towering 11-deck atrium.

Activities On Costa Luminosa
Despite its relatively modest size (at less than 100,000 gross tons, it is one of the few newly built ships small enough to fit through the locks of the Panama Canal), the Luminosa delivers an incredibly large number of things to do onboard that are fun, entertaining, and relaxing.

Furthermore, the entire passenger experience is based on the use of leading-edge technologies such as a 4D cinema, roller-blading track, golf simulator with putting green, a Grand Prix race-car simulator, and the exclusive Samsara Spa wellness center with a kinesis room by Technogym, which made its worldwide debut aboard the Luminosa and her sister. There are also fun and well-equipped kiddy playrooms.

Cabins On Costa Luminosa
Accommodations include 56 cabins and suites specially situated to provide unfettered access to the spa (a Samsara Restaurant serves cuisine from a spa-inspired menu). Every cabin is equipped with a Sony PlayStation 3 console for on-demand gaming.

And with 772 private verandahs (at 68 percent the highest ratio aboard any ship in the Costa fleet) the Luminosa and her sister have more balconies available than even their larger fleetmates that top 100,000 tons.
